DC’s New 52 – Six In, Six Out

DC comics announced today that six titles would be added to the uber successful “New 52” line. Some of these titles have been expected additions, a couple were new surprises. All six books will premier in May, with six current titles ending to make room.

Batman Incorporated: Grant Morrison continues his popular run on the Dark Knight, bringing back a book that was one of DCs most popular titles before the launch of the New 52. With art by Chris Burnham, the initial story will continue where the previous series and recent Leviathan Strikes one-shot left off, with Batman and his worldwide battalion of heroes preparing for a war with the woman behind Leviathan, Talia al Ghul.

Earth 2: James Robinson and Nicola Scott bring the Justice Society back to a monthly comic.

Worlds Finest: Apparently this is not the return of the Superman/Batman team, but rather a book with rotating arcs (much like DC Universe Presents). It will initially star Power Girl and Huntress, with stories written by Paul Levitz and drawn by Kevin Maquire.

Dial H for Hero: Written by best selling author China Mieville, I suspect this series will be very similar to H.E.R.O, an extremely underrated series by DC a few years back. Using the unique concept of a strange device that can turn you into a random super hero, the series will feature art by the legendary Brian Bolland (we can only hope bolland is already way, way ahead on his schedule!).

G. I. Combat:The lead feature in this book will be The War That Time Forgot by J. T. Krul and Ariel Olivetti, which returns a classic 60’s story that dropped a combat team onto an island with dinosaurs. Various back ups will fill out the book, using DC war characters from the past such as the Unknown Soldier and The Haunted Tank.

The Ravagers: Written by Howard Mackie and illustrated by Ian Churchill, The Ravagers spins out of The Teen Titans and will interlock with both that book and Superboy.

To make room on the schedule for these new books, DC will end six titles with their 8th issue. those titles include Men of War, Mister Terrific, O.M.A.C., Hawk and Dove, Blackhawks and Static Shock.
