Magic The Gathering 2003 Tournament Results

Final standings for the December 20th "Free For All" Tournament:
2003 ended with a wild (and not to mention: FREE) final tournament. It was the year end "Free For All". There was no restrictions, no banned cards. This was a lesson in why the DCI bans and restricts certain cards! Jason Barnes got yet another tournament win. In many cases, he killed his oposition before they had played a single card! Can you say "Broken Combos?"

Final standings for the December 6th Highlander Tournament:
"There could be only one!" Players had to construct decks that had no more than one of any non basic land card. Was the competition brutal? No. It was kinda wimpy, actually. There were several draws and no one went undefeated through the day. In the end Phillip pulled out yet another tournament win.

Final standings for the November 15th Type 2 Tournament:
It was rainy and drizzly and generally miserable, but that didn't stop the hard core Magic players. Randall Giles even came to play on his birthday. Randall almost made it all the way with his blue/white Affinity deck, but Jason stopped him with his red/white Slide deck. So what was Randall's biggest disapointment: Not beating Jason in the final match or the terribly off key rendition of Happy Birthday he suffered through during the 2nd round? We may never know.

It was a pitiful turnout for the holiday weekend tournament. Everyone played and had fun despite the small group present. Randall Giles lost only one game the entire day to take his first tournament in awhile. The suprise was Michael Seigler who made it into the finals on his first DCI Toundament.

Final standings for the May 24th Scourge Premier Tournament:
It was the premier of Scourge and the usual sealed deck tournament. Everyone ripped into their packs, marveled at the new cards and complained that they didn't get as good of cards as the next guy. After four rounds Jimmy Lu was undefeated, but had to bow out of the finals, which allowed an extra player to squeek in. Just like the old days, Phillip Shoemaker got the first Bye and the ended the day with the final win.

It was a small turnout for this Extended tournament. With only 8 people playing , half made it into the finals. Ricks green and black madness deck was wiping everything out until finally falling to Randall's stompy deck. Rick claims mana shortages were his downfall. He's due, and looking for his first place win, so consider this fair warning.

Creatures everywhere! The first Onslaught expansion, Legions, premiered at this tournament. After much graoning by everyone who had to list all the cards in their decks, play began as usual with the new set. Jeff Green beat Phillip Shoemker in the final round with a Goblin/Elf deck.

Final standings for the January 11th Type One Tournament:

It was back to Type One for the first tournament of 2003. The tourney went smoothly until the final round, where Jeremy Mitchell faced off against Jason Barnes. It was ultimately a deadlock, with Jeremy's Reanimator deck holding Jasons Oath deck static. They battled for over two hours, until everyone pleaded with them to just call it a draw. Finally an agreement was reached with Jason declared the winner.
