This is Mark Waid's last issue of JLA. Personally, I think that Waid's JLA has been even better than Grant Morrison's popular run. So for his final JLA story, Waid gives us a Christmas tale. Holiday superhero stories can be a lot of fun. Christmas stories especially can be terrific and some greats come quickly to mind: Who can forget Spider-Man and the Human Torch taking the Sandman to see his mother on Christmas Eve, or Batman with a Santa hat and beard delivering toys? (ah, the '70's. Before "grim and gritty" was invented) Well, If those stories mean nothing to you, then you need to be reminded of the simple pleasures that Spandex and Sleigh Bells can bring.
It's Christmas Eve and Plastic Man is helping baby-sit a jaded youth named "Weezer" (which is really pretty explainable: Any child named "Weezer" has a right to be jaded). To get him to settle down, Plas tells him the Tale of when Santa joined the JLA. Yes, you read that correctly. Kris Kringle and Kal-El. The Jolly Fat Man and the Dark Knight Detective. Surely this is a match that was obvious from the beginning! Needless to say, Neron is involved (You knew he'd have to be, right? ) and when a torqued Santa opens up a can of "Whoop-Elf"... well, watch out if you've been naughty.
So, as for my review of the book, here it is:All images on this page (except for the Marvel covers on the link)
