What about Cannibal Corpse? All the death metal-heads tell me that it is a really good band. I think they're okay, but I prefer Atheist.... maybe you should go with Atheist instead, they have some bits of jazz thrown in the mix.

Tiger lillies is one of my favorite bands, its actually the reason I took up accordion. What songs did you listen to, just browse youtube?
|
The songs I listened to were Snip Snip, Vagina and bones. Those were the first 3 that come up.
 | | Maybe you can recommend some other bands to me, I have hit somewhat of a hump here for the past few months in finding new things. I am probably not as well-rounded in my tastes however, heh, but you know somewhat what I listen to heh |
Well, if you are not familiar with the Pixies, they seem to be right up your alley. However, they're a really influential band, so that might be like you recommending Joy Division to me. Beyond that is a little tougher, as I don't think we really listen to the same type of music. The stuff you've recommended is, as a general rule, more edgy that what I usually listen to.
If you want to branch out into something different, you might try Steve Tibbets or Mike Oldfield. OR, if you really want to broaden yourself, give Ornette Coleman a serious listen.
Lminister: Im familiar with Cannibal Corpse, but not Atheist. That's not really my type of music, but despite the jazzy bits, I can't imagine myself listening to a band names Atheist. Just a matter of preference, of course.

Of course. As a fun factoid, one of their original names was R.A.V.A.G.E, which (if I'm not mistaken) stands for Raging Atheists Vowing A Gory End..... I getting the feeling that one would be even less popular. As another aside, I'm a fan of Gnarles Barkley, and that sounds like it may be a little more up your alley.... If you live in an alley.

Well, I give credit to Gnarles Barkley for their career defining song. Music is so fractured these days that there hardly seems to be the kind of songs that everyone is listening to.
however, beyond their one song, I didn't hear too much in Gnarles Barkley. Now, if they turn out to be a one-hit wonder, I'm all for that. There just aren't enough one-hit wonders these days.
A customer brought in a few things for me to listen to: Halestorm, OneRepublic and Band of Skulls.
Halestorm was generic hard rock with the almost stereotype "tough-chick" singing lead with the kind of hysteronics that have become inevitable after Amy Lee. That being said, I actually enjoyed it. It was cheesy, but fun in a guilty pleasure sort of way.
There was more to admire in OneRepublic, if perhaps less actual fun. I think if I was stuck on a desert island, OneRepublic would wear far better than Halestorm. Still, I'm a sucker for female singers.

I appreciate the recommendations! But aye, I already have all of the pixies stuff. I want to throw out the bands Islands for you to check out, if you haven't heard of them already.

Islands was pretty interesting and not what I expected from you.
I'm not sure how to categorize it - it made me think of They Might Be Giants, for some reason. Maybe because it was peppy, but not really something I could hum after hearing it. I'll look a little more from them.

I will name a few bands for you, zeroman. They all have at least one song I like. Trying to hit on a bit more obscure as in if I say the name, I doubt someone knows who I am talking about. Let me know if you want songs recommended too.
Clutch
Ra
Fair To Midland
Shooter Jennings - Country Rock or something like that
Finntroll - maybe if you like Rammstein
Scars On Broadway - Getting more famous
Apocalyptica - Getting more famous

I know Ra, Shooter Jennings and Apocolyptica.
I'm not familiar with the others. I'll give them a listen.
(in the old days, we'd have said "I'll give them a spin." Doesn't apply anymore)

Ha I know the bass player cliff personally, my brother was friends with him. My mom once bought him a cheeseburger because he had like no money before he got signed! Personally I don't care for them at all, but my brother seems to like them.

Well its not that they are off the wall; I posted tiger lillies on this topic for christ's sakes. I just don't really care for metal; he was more my brother's friend, who is in hong kong. I actually haven't seen cliff in years. I am sure if my brother cared to he would go visit him though. However, Cliff also has the privilege of being an integral part in the destruction of my youthful innocence. My brother once went over his apartment with me (which what seemed like having 20 people living in it.) and I just had to sit on a staircase across the room with people i never knew as he went and hung out in his room. And all of sudden these strange, smelly people put on a "naughty" movie. What could I do but sit there and wait it out : / One of these most awkward moments of my life, and the first time I ever saw that. Heh, thanks Cliff -.-
