Mask Policy Intact at Ground Zero

Tuesday, March 2nd Texas Governor Greg Abbott rescinded the statewide mask mandate. Since that time, I have spoken to many customers and friends who were concerned as to how this would affect our policy here at Ground Zero.

Frankly, I’m perplexed at why Gov. Abbott saw fit to rescind the mandate at this time, a mandate that was backed by zero state or local enforcement anyway. Certainly, the implementation of Covid vaccinations has given us legitimate hope that relief is on the horizon. Unfortunately, with less than 7% of the Texas population fully vaccinated as I write this, it is premature to relax just yet. Honestly, I just don’t understand how something both as simple and altruistic as wearing a face covering ever became a political issue in the first place. There is no question our mask policy has cost us. It’s cost us sales at a time when we could ill-afford their loss. It has caused us to be yelled out and occasionally threatened. Despite that, it has continued to be our goal to maintain as safe an environment as possible for everyone who chooses to shop here.

I do not fear contracting the Covid virus. I DO, however, fear someone at greater risk than myself contracting it through my actions or inaction. It is not bravery to disregard the effect your actions have on those around you, as the strongest of us should do whatever is necessary to protect the most vulnerable. My own conscience and faith dictate that I do everything in my power to ensure the health and safety of those around me. That mask you wear inside the store is for the safety of my family, my friends and my customers. So, until it is the consensus of medical experts that they are no longer necessary, masks will continue to be required inside Ground Zero.

Likewise, we continue to offer online shopping and curbside delivery for those who need it.As always, we value your patronage and support.

Thank you.
